APF France Handicap offers training in four half-days from February to April, on Saturday mornings in Strasbourg, concerning multiple sclerosis. This training is aimed at people diagnosed and their loved ones and caregivers. “The meetings will take place in person once more for the first time since the start of Covid,” indicates Marion Rapp, from the Bas-Rhin delegation of the APF.
Saturday February 3, the session offers to better understand the disease: epidemiology, pathophysiology and research. The second session, Saturday February 17, allows for an exchange of testimonies between participants. On Saturday March 2, social rights will be discussed, “for example knowing how to adapt to everyday life and pursue your professional career,” specifies Marion Rapp. Finally, Saturday April 20 will be a place for a friendly meeting and review.
3,000 multiple sclerosis diagnoses every year in France
“People affected by this disease as well as their loved ones will be able to devote time to gathering information from specialists (neurologist, integration managers), and referring patients, exchange with people who share the same situation and find the tools to learn to better manage their daily lives,” specifies the association.
In total, around fifty people will be able to participate in these meetings in exchange for an individual contribution (€25) to the APF France Handicap Délégation du Bas-Rhin. “Each year, 300 people are newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in Alsace, a territory marked by one of the highest prevalences in France, no less than 3,000 people each year. The needs are enormous and the wait on the part of patients is high. It is mainly women who are affected by the disease and people from hot countries. There are many treatments to deal with it, but you have to be well monitored by health professionals,” explains Marion Rapp.
The four half-days will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Maison de la Région Grand Est, 1 place Adrien-Zeller 67070 Strasbourg. Registration (required before January 27) and information: [email protected] and 03 88 28 32 46. https://sep.apf-francehandicap.org/
