When is a person most contagious?

Candidate of Medical Sciences Sergey Arabajyan told how to recognize that a person has caught the flu and not a common cold. During the spread of viruses, the doctor’s advice is especially relevant. Self-medication is very dangerous, especially when it comes to such a dangerous disease as the flu, writes AiF. Moreover, for the first three days people may not even feel that they are already at the mercy of the virus.

“Influenza is an acute respiratory viral disease caused by influenza viruses and primarily affects the upper and lower respiratory tract. On average, they last from 5 days to 2 weeks. It is believed that for the first three days following the influenza virus enters the body, the disease is practically asymptomatic (during this period, viruses multiply and their concentration in the body gradually increases). This is followed by three days of an acute period with pronounced symptoms. The next period is characterized by either gradual recovery or the appearance of complications, which significantly lengthens the duration of the disease,” the doctor explained.

It is in the course of the disease that the main difference between influenza and ARVI and covid lies. Arabajyan criticized people who, despite obvious symptoms of the disease, continue to go to work. They endanger not only themselves, but also those around them.

“A person is most contagious when he has a high body temperature, that is, in most cases this is the first 3-4 days; in subsequent days, the degree of contagion gradually decreases, but still does not disappear until complete recovery,” the doctor noted.
