A tragedy has shocked the community of the city of CucutaNorte de Santander, and has spread to reach the European coasts, specifically Malta. Sandra Ramireza 43-year-old teacher from the border region, who had made the decision to migrate to Europe in October 2022 in search of better opportunities, was found murdered in her apartment in Sliemaa town in Malta.

According to reports from local authorities cited by the international media MaltaToday, The crime was revealed on the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2024, when a man, who would later be identified as the victim’s husbandof Venezuelan nationalityshowed up at the station Sliema Police and confessed to the officers on duty to have committed the homicide. Around 6:15 am, following the confession, the authorities went to the indicated apartment, where they found the Colombian woman dead, with stab wounds.

The couple had taken up residence in Malta in the hope of a new beginning. Ramirez, who had worked as an English teacher at Colegio Gimnasio El Bosque in his hometown, continued his passion for teaching in his new home. Her romantic partner also worked as a teacher in Cúcuta before formally migrating to Malta in January 2023.

The case, which has shocked the Cucuteño community, is being investigated to clarify the motives behind the murder. The husband’s quick confession has led investigations into the attack, but the causes that led to the alleged femicide have not yet been revealed.
