In continuation of what was written last week regarding the importance of paying attention to art and its people from a new perspective, moving on from the wave of repeated exhibitions, “collections,” “generalities,” and competition in creating the largest number of events that only add to the artist more fatigue, effort, and at some point “frustration.” I will just take you at a glance of a scene that is often repeated to us as artists in Arabic calligraphy, because it is the field that I have seen a lot, and also in the other arts that I have encountered: those holding positions in cultural institutions come in a short time, and pass by you quickly, not paying much attention to what you say, and perhaps his ear catches it. Deafness, so that he does not realize your confusion and the truth or otherwise of what you are saying, comes and goes, and the event that his work team may have worked on for months ends, and he does not remember it the next morning and what he saw yesterday, and what he realized in that experience, whether depth or superficial, except for the mercy of my Lord! The repeated argument, the schedule is crowded, “Thank God so-and-so came and opened,” so that art becomes merely a show.

One day, one of the owners of international brands, from whom I learned the value of small things, said to me: “Art here is like eating popcorn.”

The meaning is in the poet’s stomach! O officials, who told you to press the agenda, and who said that we are ready to repeat the same scene every day, and who said that we accept the idea of continuous exhaustion without real appreciation, morally, psychologically and materially, where is the budgets that are spent on extravagance in establishing all this momentum and the number of your real support? Whether through acquisition or encouragement for future programs.

Why the competition between all of them that killed the deserved time? Why the spiral that began to kill passion? Why, to this day, do officials not know or realize that there are accurate statistics on the number of professional and new artists? Why do all the initiatives that appear to support and launch a global trend be shocking and sad on the surface? Why, following our articles that mimic reality become published and read, no one takes action following that? For whom will we continue to write over and over once more and not find at the end of the aisle a light of hope for change? Why are we so stubborn regarding things, which are professionalism, methodology and budget?

We are told: Find your tools, learn the techniques, allocate the time, and take the initiative yourself. Yes, most of us take the initiative on our own, work hard and fight as well, and even if they succeed, some of them fight them for a personal agenda. There is no gloom or pessimism in the matter, but on the contrary, it is an appreciation for the thought of those who are trying to advance culture in our country, those who care regarding deepening it, those who care regarding our existence, and those who help us make the most difficult decisions.

It is nice to be proud of the minds and geniuses in all fields, and it is even more beautiful to see one day a comprehensive initiative between all sectors and institutions, throughout the country, in an integrated manner to benefit from everything that these institutions own, to move art and its people to a new level and international level, and perhaps the Ministry of Culture and Youth is the body authorized to do so. That one day.
