Russia: A warehouse ravaged by a huge fire in Saint Petersburg
The industrial site, which belongs to the Wildberries company, was still engulfed in flames mid-followingnoon on Saturday.

A major fire ravaged a warehouse of a major online sales brand in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Saturday, without causing any casualties, said emergency services, which claimed to have deployed more than 270 firefighters.
Gigantic cloud of black smoke
On Telegram, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry indicates that the flames affected an area of 70,000 square meters. In the middle of the followingnoon, the fire, which broke out in the morning, was still not extinguished, according to this source.
Around 270 firefighters were mobilized to put out the flames, according to the Ministry. Images, released by emergency services, show a huge cloud of black smoke escaping from fiery flames at dawn, in the middle of a snowy area.
8.7% of group orders
The warehouse belongs to the Wildberries company, one of the country’s leading online sales sites.
Fires in this type of infrastructure or on industrial sites are frequent in Russia and caused mainly by non-compliance with safety standards or outdated equipment. An online sales expert, Anton Bestougine, quoted by the Russian press agency Ria Novosti, affirmed that the warehouse concentrated 8.7% of the Wildberries group’s orders.
