UBS announced Friday the appointment to its board of directors of Gail Kelly, a 67-year-old financial executive who led Australian banks St. George Bank and Westpac.
She was chosen to replace Dieter Wemmer, the longest serving director of the Swiss group to date since he had served on the board since 2016, but who did not wish to renew his mandate.
An Australian national, Gail Kelly orchestrated, in 2008, the merger between Westpac, of which she was then managing director, and St. George Bank, in the middle of the financial crisis.
She was then, between 2016 and 2023, a consultant to the CEO of UBS and the management team of the Swiss establishment.
