The documentation archive of the Austrian resistance must be protected once morest attacks by the FPÖ

Vienna (OTS) – The Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW), founded by resistance fighters with broad political consensus, is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary. The DÖW is one of the internationally recognized scientific institutions in the field of research on Austrofascism, National Socialism and right-wing extremism. “The DÖW began documenting and researching resistance at an early stage. The volumes on persecution and resistance between 1934 and 1945, which are available for all federal states, were groundbreaking. In parallel to the establishment of the institutes for contemporary history at the universities, numerous research projects were carried out. Mediation through contemporary witnesses has always been and is a fundamental concern of the DÖW,” congratulates Eva Blimlinger, historian and science spokeswoman for the Green Party.

From the beginning, the DÖW has always been a guarantor of the fight once morest right-wing extremism in all forms. The Handbook of Austrian Right-Wing Extremism, published in the 1990s and edited by Wolfgang Neugebauer and Brigitte Bailer, is still the central reference work today. “I am very pleased that the DÖW has been commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior to prepare the right-wing extremism report, as the work here is carried out with scientific care. The attacks and denigration by the FPÖ in this regard must be rejected in the strongest possible terms. Yes, the DÖW has repeatedly been able to prove that FPÖ officials and employees have connections to right-wing extremists and neo-Nazis,” says Olga Voglauer, minority and memorial spokeswoman for the Greens, pointing out the current importance of the DÖW.

“We congratulate the employees and would especially like to thank the many volunteers without whom the DÖW would not have been able to take this successful path. Ad multos anno,” emphasize Blimlinger and Voglauer.
