This is the latest episode in tense relations between the president of Nîmes Olympique, Rani Assaf, and the city of Nîmes. SAS Nemau lodged an appeal with the administrative court. The company is attacking the community’s refusal to grant it the building permit for its new Costières stadium project. And, with it, that of an entire neighborhood called to emerge from the ground. The information, revealed by Objective Gardwas confirmed by Rani Assaf at Free Midday.
In June 2019, the city sold Costières and adjacent land to Rani Assaf for 8 million euros. Relations have since deteriorated sharply, along with sporting results. At the same time, the national commercial development commission (CNAC) issued an unfavorable opinion on the project in September. A decision confirmed a month later. “Technically, we must attack the refusal of permits to challenge the CNAC’s decision,” specifies Rani Assaf to the regional daily.
Athletic decline
Nîmes Olympique currently occupies fifteenth place in the National championship following five consecutive defeats. The team, which was still playing in Ligue 1 in 2021 before experiencing two relegations, is currently in a relegated position in the third division. While the training center no longer has approval, it plays its matches at the Antonins stadium, in front of temporary stands.
