This legendary hall built by Joseph Oller in 1893, dedicated to entertainment, fell on hard times during the 1930s, and had since been transformed into a cinema. Thanks to Bruno Coquatrix, the Olympia will finally reconnect with its origins. Since then, the facade of 28 Boulevard des Capucines, the name of Bruno Coquatrix is proudly displayed below that of the legendary Parisian venue. Gilbert Bécaud, Serge Lama, but also subsequently Johnny Hallyday, British and American stars, many of them have had the chance to set foot on the floor of the Olympia.
The Coquatrix bow out at the Olympia
In this family business, success is achieved but the financial situation is sometimes shaky. On several occasions, they came close to bankruptcy and can notably thank Edith Piaf who saved them. Even though she was ill, she agreed to perform for three months to a sold-out audience. When Coquatrix father died, it was his wife Paulette who took things in hand, as a trio with Jean-Michel Boris, their nephew, and Patricia. In 2001, Jean-Marie Messier, then head of Vivendi Universal, purchased the set and the Coquatrix bowed out. Since then, they have disappeared one following the other, Paulette in 2018, Jean-Michel in 2020 and finally Patricia who joined them.
