By acknowledging President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s apology for his transphobic comments once morest her, trans representative Salma Luévano raised her voice for the LGBT+ populations and sent a strong message to the head of the Executive and his spokesperson, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas.
Through social networks, the “diputrans” asked the President to keep his word to meet to “see the pending agenda and the historical debt towards our LGBTTTTIAQ+ population”, following a greeting they held in recent days.
“Mr. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador: a few days ago, at a public event I requested a meeting to discuss the pending agenda of sexual and gender diversity, and the historical debt towards our population.
“You immediately said yes, which I appreciate. Days later, one morning, she made a comment that, by mistake or ignorance, hurt and offended not only me and my identity, but that of all trans women in Mexico.
President, I recognize and accept the public apology that you offered me yesterday. I have always been a woman of dialogue. From my first day as an LGBTIQA+ activist, including when I took protest as one of the first trans deputies in Mexico. “I have created bridges, I have been tireless and a woman of one piece,” said the Morena deputy.

“President, so far I have had no communication from the spokesperson for the Presidency, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, or anyone from his office to meet. I am sure that the government that you lead, this fourth transformation to which I feel proud to belong, is not a government that closes its doors to me, closes them to diversity or ignores us.
“The fourth transformation has to be diverse and if it is not diverse, it is not the fourth transformation. And I will not stop fighting, Mr. President, until dignity becomes customary,” Luévano declared.
