The People Power Party announced on the 11th that it is seeking to recruit former Samsung Electronics President Koh Dong-jin (current advisor) ahead of the general election in April.

Park Jeong-ha, senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a media notice that day, “I am telling you that we have received many inquiries,” and added, “Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon personally requested the recruitment of former President Ko Dong-jin. “It hasn’t been decided yet,” he said. Earlier on this day, a media outlet reported that former CEO Koh Dong-jin decided to join the People Power Party. Afterwards, as related inquiries continued, he revealed that he was in contact with former CEO Ko Dong-jeon to recruit him.

Former CEO Dong-jin Ko joined Samsung Electronics as an employee in 1984 and rose to the position of president following holding various key positions. He also leads the wireless division and is evaluated as one of the key players in the ‘Galaxy success story’.

If former CEO Koh Dong-jin joins the People Power Party, it is expected that he will run for the Suwonmu constituency in Gyeonggi Province, where Samsung plants are located, or as a proportional representative. Suwonmu is where National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo declared not to run. However, Suwon is classified as a rough area for conservatives, with the Democratic Party of Korea occupying all five constituencies.

Chairman Han Dong-hoon, who also serves as co-chairman of the party’s talent recruitment committee, previously recruited lawyer Park Sang-soo (45), a lawyer specializing in school violence.
