Dengue in Córdoba: 97 cases and eight hospitalized in the Province

The Ministry of Health of Córdoba reported that There are 97 cases of dengue in the Province so far this season.

Of that figure, 88 are imported and 9 indigenous. The latter correspond entirely to the city of Córdoba, official sources stated.

The imported cases were reported in 15 departments of the Province and 76 of them had travel history, mostly to other provinces such as Chaco, Formosa and Misiones. The rest of the cases go to other countries such as Mexico, Paraguay, Venezuela and Bolivia.

Hospitalized

According to an official statement, almost all of them were treated on an outpatient basis, although there are eight patients with suspected and/or confirmed dengue fever in different provincial hospitals, none of them seriously.

There are no cases of chikungunya or Zika, nor deaths from these infections.

Prevention

Laura López, Undersecretary of Health Strategies and Access to Health, considered “It is important that the entire community participates to reduce the proliferation of mosquitoes, checking the homes and their surroundings, especially in these rainy weeks, to eliminate any object that might accumulate water and become mosquito breeding sites”.

“It is also essential to avoid bites using repellents or mechanical barriers and, in the event of compatible symptoms, to consult quickly, as this allows not only access to care but also allows control actions to be carried out to reduce the possibilities of local transmission.”he emphasized.

Measures to reduce mosquito breeding sites

  • Eliminate all unused containers that may accumulate water.

  • Keep yards and gardens clean, tidy and weeded.

  • Clean animal waterers daily, brushing the walls of the container.

  • Fill vases and pot holders with wet sand. If this is not possible, wash them daily and change the water.

  • Clean gutters and rain drains from roofs.

  • Place upside down, cover or empty those objects that cannot be disposed of and may accumulate water.

Recommendations to avoid bites

  • Place mosquito nets on doors and windows.

  • Use repellents carefully following the recommendations on the packaging.

  • Wear light clothing that covers your arms and legs, especially during outdoor activities.

  • Protect cribs and baby strollers with tulle.
