Legendary Swedish coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, who left his post as sporting director last year, gave an update on his health. And he has terrible news.

Sven-Goran Eriksson (75 years old) is a legendary coach. With Lazio Rome, he won two Euro Cups in 1999 before winning the Scudetto in 2000; from 2001 to 2006, he then led the England national team, playing in two World Cups and one Euro.

After stints at Manchester City, Notts County, Leicester City or even as coach of Mexico and the Ivory Coast, Eriksson had worked in exotic freelance roles in recent years. From Thailand to the Philippine national team, he finally took a long break between 2018 and 2022, returning to Sweden, to the Karlstad club, as sports director.

But last year, the Swede announced his departure for health reasons. This week, on Swedish radio P1, Eriksson gave more details. “Everyone understood that I was very ill. Cancer was suspected, and that is the case. I have at best a year to live,” reveals Eriksson. “Maybe a little less, maybe a little more. We can’t really be sure.”
