From the opening of the Arab Theater Festival
The activities of the 14th Arab Theater Festival were launched under the patronage of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani on the stage of the National Theater in Baghdad.
The festival, organized by the Arab Theater Authority, will continue for the period between 10-18 January, in cooperation with the Cinema and Theater Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and the Artists Syndicate.
Iraqi Minister of Culture Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani said in his speech during the opening of the festival: “The launch of the festival is a wonderful step for life makers on stage. The stage conveys their message in all its meanings through movement, word, gesture, sound and image.”
He added: “Since the Greeks created theatre, it has been a wonderful bridge for conveying messages that express all the details of life to generations, the most wonderful stories, the best writers, and names that remain shining as long as life continues, and there are many names and those who sang them on stage.”
He said: “Theater is an experience, a story, and a suffering that flows like a waterfall of life that never stops. If we were to continue defining theater, we would need a long, long time to include meanings related to the lives of nations.”
The head of the Arab Theater Authority, Ismail Abdullah, said in his speech: “We extend our thanks to the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, for his directives to revive the festival, and our thanks also to the Minister of Culture, Ahmed Al-Badrani, who was keen to keep up with all the details of the festival’s preparations over the course of 10 months.”
He added, “The Captain of the Artists Syndicate and the Director General of the Cinema and Theater Department are known to us as a model of dedication and generosity and among the creators on the stage.”
He continued, “We are dramatists who create our dream from the heart of our wounds, and we are the word when fear swallows tongues and voices become silent.”
