Medications: side and undesirable effects

2024-01-10 08:00:04

« Do not use oral forms of vasoconstrictor medications to relieve cold symptoms »: it was the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) which issued this opinion on December 1, following a pharmacovigilance report, a recommendation linked to the risk of adverse effects possibly serious for patients.

Included in the package leaflet of a medicine, the list of adverse effects is drawn up even before the medicine is placed on the market, and following having undergone effectiveness and toxicity tests. Although this list may seem long, it is not systematic to develop adverse effects following medication consumption.

But what happens when the medication supposed to relieve the patient triggers new symptoms? What to do when you observe an undesirable effect that is not recorded?
