  • The Lucerne Light Festival starts on Thursday at 6 p.m.

  • This year, 24 creative light installations and three light shows will delight visitors.

  • For the first time, an installation will also be found on Hirschenplatz.

  • With a budget of around one million francs, the LiLu will now be taking place for the fifth time.

The Lucerne Light Festival (LiLu) recorded around 130,000 visitors last year. The selection of venues such as the KKL, the Meilihalle and the Torbogen remains constant, but new installations are created every year in order to offer visitors a new experience.

Budget amounts to one million francs

“The budget of the light festival amounts to just over one million francs,” reveals Jeanine Züst, media manager at the LiLu association. The feedback from the gastronomy and hotel industry suggests that the festival has not only a culturally but also economically positive impact on the city.

The “Bähnli” is new on Hirschenplatz

The new installation, the “Bähnli”, on Hirschenplatz was created by a young artist studying at the HSLU. Züst says: “We are very pleased that we are now able to show an installation at Hirschenplatz and use the square.”

Searched for months for suitable artists

According to Züst, the response from the population has been consistently positive, and following five years the LiLu has almost established itself as a traditional winter highlight. The anticipation can already be felt in the summer. “This year you can look forward to 24 creative light installations and three light shows,” says Züst. In order to create all of this year’s light installations, the association spent months looking for suitable artists.
