The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) issues a cordial invitation to the community to register their names for the agency’s innovative robotic lunar rover, known as VIPER, an acronym for Exploration Rover. Polar Volatile Researcher.
NASA extended an open invitation to those interested in registering their names to be sent to the Moon through the innovative lunar robot.
This rover will undertake a momentous mission to the lunar South Pole, with the aim of deciphering the enigmas linked to lunar water and deepening the understanding of the environment where NASA plans to make the historic landing of the first woman and the first black individual, in the framework of its Artemis program.
The receipt of names by NASA will take place until 10:59 pm on March 15. Once collected, the agency will incorporate these names into the rover, as confirmed by the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio.
How to participate in sending your name to the Moon?
To be part of this initiative, it is necessary to access the web portal “Submit your name with VIPER” from NASA and proceed to select the “Get your boarding pass” option.
Subsequently, names and surnames can be entered, in addition to selecting a four- to seven-digit PIN code, essential to access the boarding pass on future occasions and thus become a virtual spectator during the launch of the Artemis mission.
Upon shipment, NASA will provide a virtual boarding pass and participants are encouraged to subscribe to the newsletter to stay informed regarding this historic event. In addition, you are encouraged to share contributions on social networks using the hashtag #SendYourName.
“With VIPER, we are going to study and explore parts of the Moon’s surface that no one has been to before, and with this campaign, we are inviting the world to be part of that risky but rewarding journey,” said Nicola Fox, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA headquarters in Washington, United States.
“Just think: our names will travel as VIPER navigates the rugged terrain of the lunar South Pole and collects valuable data that will help us better understand the history of the Moon,” he added.
The planned landing of VIPER on the lunar surface is planned for the end of 2024, within the framework of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services Initiative.
Throughout its 100-day mission, VIPER will travel several kilometers, exploring crater rims and eventually entering permanently shadowed craters, among the coldest in our solar system, to collect samples of different types of soils and lunar environments.
NASA will collect the names through its online platform.
