Remembering Ardis Taylor: A Life of Teaching, Farming, and Legacy

Ardis Taylor, 89, of rural Lisbon, ND passed away January 8, 2024 at  Evergreen Assisted Living, Moorhead, MN.

Ardis was born on July 16, 1934 at Lisbon, North Dakota to Oscar and Magnhild (Johnson) Ringdahl.  She attended Aliceton Consolidated School for 10 years and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1952.  In 1958, she graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, where she earned her teaching degree.  Ardis enjoyed teaching biology for 30 years.  She was a favorite teacher to many and inspired some to become teachers.  Ardis was united in marriage to Harvey Taylor April 2, 1962 and together they had one son, Miles.  They made their home in Aliceton Township near Lisbon, where they raised Hereford Cattle and Quarter Horses.  She met Harvey through their work organizing the North Dakota Quarter Horse Association.  Together they were inducted into the NDQHA Hall of Fame in 2014.  Throughout her life she was recognized by many awards and achievements.  She was chosen as Ransom County Agriculturalist of the year in 2017.  Ardis was very proud of her homestead which received the North Dakota Centennial Farm award in 1984 and she was awarded the Seim-Forred Soil Stewardship award in 1977.

Harvey passed away March 3, 2005, she and Miles continued to live on the homestead until his death August 24, 2015.  Ardis lived alone on the farm until she required nursing care in 2019.  In her spare time, she wrote numerous family history books on both the Taylors and Ringdahls.  She enjoyed researching the history of people and the land.

Ardis is survived by her nieces & nephews, Todd and Michelle Ringdahl of Walcott, ND; Marlo Dullum of Fargo, ND; Treena and Dennis Radermacher of Lisbon, ND; Rhonda Cherry of Valentine, NE; a special friend, Leah Mohberg of Mohall, ND and many great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey, son Miles, brothers Lowell and Russell, and nephew Robert Ringdahl.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Milnor.  Ardis’s service will be live streamed.
