They ruin our lives during the winter and unfortunately, the various epidemics continue to circulate.
In its latest point, posted online this Wednesday, January 10, Santé Publique France indicates that the end of the tunnel for the circulation of winter viruses is not happening right away.
Indeed, if certain indicators are decreasing, others are increasing, particularly for the flu.
We take stock.
Flu
The circulation of influenza viruses is increasing and intensifying in many regions in France. SPF also notes a “clear increase” positivity rates in medical practices in town but also in hospitals. Moreover, the activity linked to these viruses in community medicine is “increasing”.
In France, the epidemic continued to progress with new regions affected. In total, 11 regions are in the epidemic phase, with active circulation of viruses, including the PACA region.
At the hospital, emergency indicators were decreasing except for the share of cases hospitalized for influenza among all hospitalizations which remained stable.
On the Côte d’Azur, we have also noted a rate of hospitalization for flu following going to the emergency room, of 2,134 per 10,000 visits.
Covid-19
Concerning Covid-19, the virus is still circulating quite actively despite a drop in indicators. On the other hand, good news: in wastewater, the detection of the virus was in sharp decline during the first week of January. A sign that the epidemic is slowing down significantly.
And still according to health authorities, COVID-19 vaccination coverage for the fall 2023 campaign for people aged 65 and over is 29.0%, or less than one in three people vaccinated during the campaign. winter. Since October 17, 2023, 30.0% of COVID-19 vaccinations have been given at the same time as a flu shot among people aged 65 and older.
Bronchiolitis
Here once more, the indicators are decreasing. The bronchiolitis epidemic continues in France but is tending to decline or at least activity in town and in hospitals among children under two years old is decreasing.
In the PACA region, out of 10,000 SOS Médecins medical procedures, 862 were for bronchiolitis. Last month, they stood at 1,187.
Gastroenteritis
As for “gastro”, the PACA region is not immune to the epidemic. Indicators provided by health authorities show that hospital activity is increasing slightly. Last month, for example, there was a hospitalization rate for acute gastroenteritis of 1,511 per 10,000 visits. During the first week of January, there were 1,648 for 10,000 passages. A “weak” increase but which proves that the virus is circulating. And it is people aged 65 and over who are the most affected with a hospitalization rate of more than 3,278 per 10,000 visits.
In this context, Santé Publique France recalls that “the systematic adoption of barrier gestures in addition to vaccination remains an effective way to protect once morest respiratory infections and their complications”.
Scientists therefore recommend wearing a mask in the event of symptoms, in busy places and in the presence of vulnerable people, washing your hands regularly but also ventilating enclosed spaces.
