President of Ecuador Announces Forceful Measures to Combat Crime and Deport 1,500 Foreigners: Colombia’s Response

In the midst of the crisis of violence carried out by criminal gangs, the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, announced forceful measures to combat crime.

Among the Government’s determinations, Noboa Azín indicated that it will deport foreigners deprived of their liberty who have committed crimes in the country.

“This week we began the deportation of the 1,500 foreigners, most of them Colombians, including Venezuelans and Colombians who are in prisons”he said in a radio statement.

Likewise, the president sent a defiant message to the gangs that have taken to the streets.

“All of these terrorist groups are military targets. And if you want to make videos of shooting, be brave and fight once morest the military.”he added.

Noboa insisted that he will fight criminal groups and that he will seek peace in his country.

“This is a firm government. The moments of lukewarm governments are over,” he said.

In the conversation, Noboa stated that Ecuador is under a “state of war.” “We are practically in a non-international armed conflict,” he added.

Likewise, the president sent a message to his citizens regarding the future of the country: “We are fighting once morest terrorist groups that today number more than 20,000 people (…) “We are not going to let society die slowly, soon we are going to give peace to Ecuadorian families.”he asserted.

Colombia’s response to the announcement of the deportation of 1,500 foreigners

The Minister of Justice of Colombia, Néstor Osuna, responded to President Noboa’s announcement of the mass deportation of foreign prisoners of liberty.

“We’ll see How many of those people, if they reach the border, really have to be captured by the Colombian authorities? and be placed at the disposal of a judge to pay a penalty and which ones don’t, which ones would be released,” he said in a statement to reporters.
