The province of Kwanza-Sul yesterday made the first shipment of 18 tons of coffee for export to several countries in Europe, with financing of around 60 million kwanzas. Financing was provided by the Commercial Agriculture Development Project (PDAC), with 50 percent of the value, and by Banco de Fomento de Angola (BFA) with another 50 percent.
The shipment that was made from the municipality of Porto Amboim was considered by businessman José Manuel Ventura as a gain for the province that wants to become one of the largest coffee producers. The project’s promoters say the conditions have been created with the installation, in the municipality of Sumbe, of the Coffee Rebenefit Unit, belonging to businessman José Ventura.
This unit is prepared to receive coffee from the municipalities of Amboim (Gabela), Quilenda, Cassongue, Quibala and Mussemde, meaning all stages can be made between Amboim and Sumbe. Previously, the coffee chain for export was very long and costly, as the product was peeled in Amboim, carried in a raffia bag to Luanda, unloaded and reprocessed, and subsequently certified by the National Coffee Institute (INCA), before the container had to be sealed and exported, which involved a lot of costs and a long chain.
Today the chain is shortened and competitive, in addition to reducing costs with the installation of this Rebenefit Unit. The second shipment for export is scheduled to leave in October this year, and, although the quantity has not yet been defined, it is expected to be larger than the first, taking into account the amount of rain that falls in the province. .
