What to wear with your electronic bracelet?

The revival of the electronic bracelet has not said its last word. What if the solution to standing out in the fashion sphere was to become serial-criminal ? You might have the opportunity to wear the famous sesame, because yes, it has (re)become a must-have.

No need to be tricky to get the Grail: there are a few techniques. To begin, dress in your best jacket found at Courrèges and go out for a shoplift (without violence of course). Another option, rob a bank in Amina Muaddi heels (not stilettos) and flash her best smile on the surveillance camera. Last alternative, opt for an organized gang scam (be careful, however, to choose your luxury partners carefully).

The figure of this unexpected comeback? Anna Sorokin, aka Anna Delvey (photo opposite), whom you probably knew from the Netflix series Inventing Anna in 2022, played brilliantly by Julia Garner. It tells the story of a (fake) rich German heiress who scammed the biggest financial figures in the Big Apple as well as luxury hotels around the world. Sentenced in 2019 to a four-year prison sentence, the most glam criminal has since served her sentence, but is still serving a sentence of house arrest for overstaying her American visa. You can see her strutting the streets of New York on Thursday mornings with her famous electronic bracelet (the only time she can leave her gilded cage in Manhattan). “ The Soho Swindler » is careful to coordinate her looks at each of her public appearances. For her shoot with ES magazine in October 2022, she took care to accessorize her bracelet with her initials in encrusted diamonds. Alexander Wang outfits, YSL coats, vintage Prada 80’s heels, or even Celine glasses… it’s Anna Wintour lurking at the window.

CATWALK MUST-HAVE ?

Before Anna, it was Lindsay Lohan who should be credited with being the initiator of the “Free the Bracelet” movement. In 2007, she appeared unpretentiously on photocalls in a pink swimsuit accompanied by her best friend on her ankle. Under surveillance for alcoholism, it made it possible to measure one’s blood alcohol level by perspiration (a great amount of self-control). Others followed the movement like the actress Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious), also seen the same year as Lindsay on the Marc Jacobs front row proudly displaying the accessory. In 2018, Chris Brown has never been more stylish than with his 100-carat full-diameter electronic bracelet…

Fashion being caught up in everything that takes on a provocative appearance, it was enough for several designers to take inspiration from the object to transform it into a fashion object. And this since 2007. On October 4, presentation of the Chanel Spring 2008 show by Karl Lagerfeld. The colorful silhouettes follow one another, and a small detail surprises the fashionistas of the front row: the mini ankle bags. Some people agree, it’s innovative, it’s unheard of, and above all it’s daring, but others hate it: we don’t really understand the usefulness of this bag, which is reminiscent of an electronic bracelet… Price of sentence ? €1750, the equivalent of a fine for speeding over 50 km/h. Fun, right? More recently, Gucci initiated the comeback of this famous ankle item. September 2019: parade in Milan under the artistic direction of Alessandro Michele, the leather ankle accessory to put lipsticks on from look 33 looks exactly like a penitentiary bracelet…

You will have understood, the electronic bracelet will reinvent itself once more and once more. In 2024, we’re counting on Tory Lanez to give us a fashion tutorial.
