The first lady, Verónica Alcocer, is in the eye of controversy following the La Silla Vacía portal revealed in the last few hours the excessive expenses in hiring people who manage her personal image.
Some of them have salaries higher than those of a minister, they are hired through public entities and their fees would be between 10 and 30 million pesos per month.
One of those mentioned is Fady Flórez, makeup artist and costume designer. Flórez is a Monteriano plastic artist, who is also a fashion designer. During his career, he has worked in makeup in film and television productions such as Escobar, the boss of evil, El Chapo, among others.
Since 2021, in the midst of the presidential pre-campaign, he has frequently been seen accompanying the first lady both at events and meetings in the country and internationally. There she was seen along with other people close to Alcocer such as the former counselor for Reconciliation Eva Ferrer and the choreographer Nerú, also with controversial contracts in the Presidency.
For example, Flórez has been with Alcocer on 12 of the 14 trips he had made until October 2023. One of the most striking facts is that they would have no relationship with the needs of RTVC. Some of the meetings to which the makeup artist accompanied the first lady were the Barranquilla Carnival, Colombiamoda and tours with communities in La Guajira, Risaralda, Nariño, Sucre, Atlántico and Bolívar.

He also accompanied her to Europe in May last year. Both were in Spain, Portugal and London. This is evidenced not only by documents from the Presidency but also by Flórez’s Instagram account. And in mid-September she accompanied her to New York and later to Rome and Turin in Italy.

One of the questions has been the high salary that Flórez earns for his work, which would amount to 120 million pesos between December 2022 and November 2023. But, in addition, those travel expenses for his transfers have been 49.3 million pesos. .
Strong criticism from the opposition
The expenses on the staff that cares for the first lady led the congressman of the Democratic Center Juan Espinal to consider a summons to the officials and public entities where the money is coming from to finance Verónica Alcocer’s group of collaborators.
“She cannot be summoned to debate political control, since she is not a public official, but we will summon the officials who are spending Colombians’ money paying for eccentricities,” he said.

For his part, representative Hernán Cadavid, also from the Democratic Center, reacted: “Before they claimed that ‘peace was shattered’. Today the Peace Councils are destined to pay makeup artists, masseuses, helicopters, photographers and best friends of the family.”
Bogotá councilor Daniel Briceño did not hide his indignation: “Citizens do not kill themselves paying taxes so that the first lady Verónica Alcocer has a makeup artist, photographer, best friend and advisor with a minister’s salary. “This is an abuse of millions of Colombians, a shame,” he said.
