The day before yesterday, the city of Paris named one of its streets following rock star David Bowie, in the first tribute to the singer, eight years following his death. “David Bowie Street” was officially opened in the 13th district of the capital.
The mayor of the 13th district, Jérôme Commet, said while unveiling the street sign: “Long live rock music, long live pop music, long live David Bowie, long live Paris.”
Comet, a fan of Bowie, launched the idea of naming the street following the singer in early 2020, and obtained approval from the city of Paris later the same year.
The street, which extends 50 metres, was known to urban planning officials as “VoieDZ/13”.
Bowie, who died on January 10, 2016, following suffering from liver cancer, was one of the most prominent and best-selling musicians of the 20th century.
Among his most prominent songs and albums are “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,” “Let’s Dance,” and “China Girl.”
