AC Fiorentina fans can at least reserve their tickets for the Olimpico once more. In the 2023 Coppa final, the Viola narrowly lost 2-1 to the big favorites Inter Milan. This year, however, the Nerazzurri can no longer destroy Fiorentina’s dream. Inter had sensationally failed once morest Bologna in the round of 16 (1:2 following extra time).

And exactly that opponent was waiting on Tuesday evening in the venerable Artemio Franchi. It was a battle of attrition right from the start. After 26 minutes, the home fans called for a penalty for the first time, but Lucumi’s push once morest Ikoné was not enough for a penalty. Eight minutes later, the home team was lucky not to have fallen behind: After fine preparatory work by Orsolini, Zirkzee danced past opponent Milenkovic – in the end the crossbar saved the former Hertha keeper Christensen (34th).

After the break, the game continued to deteriorate. Everything was screaming for extra time before the big chance for the lucky punch arose in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Martinez Quarta didn’t head the ball past Bologna keeper Skorupski.

Zirkzee only hits aluminum once more

In the first half of extra time, Zirkzee had a chance to make it 1-0, but only hit the outside post from a tight angle (94′). After the break, Florence had another great opportunity, but Kayode’s header in the six-yard box failed badly (109′).

Like Florence in the round of 16 once morest second division team Parma Calcio (4-1), it went to penalties. The first eight shooters kept their nerve there. Then, however, the former Hoffenheim player Posch stepped up to the plate. The 28-time Austrian international player had too much left behind and put the ball over it. Lopez didn’t miss this opportunity and sent Florence into the semi-finals with the tenth penalty of the evening.

In the other three quarter-finals, Lazio and Roma as well as Milan and Bergamo face each other on Wednesday, while Juve and Frosinone will determine the last semi-final participants on Thursday.
