National Council election: Babler would prefer to vote before summer

“I’m in favor of voting quickly, ideally before the summer,” he said in response to a corresponding question in the “ZIB2 interview” on Monday. Babler once once more categorically ruled out any collaboration with the FPÖ following the ballot. “That is out of the question, there is no coalition with the FPÖ,” he emphasized. He doesn’t want a country that isolates itself and locks itself in; he has a different model in mind. The SPÖ leader said they wanted to spare the country from further liberal participation in government.

Once once more he cited inheritance and wealth taxes as coalition conditions. There is a need for “more justice, more tax justice,” said Balber. The SPÖ leader does not believe that a coalition with the ÖVP is a long way off. Because “more justice” is probably also in the interest of the ÖVP.

The role of ex-SPÖ Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer at Signa “hurts” him, said Babler: “I can only condemn it morally.” Such consulting fees are “difficult to explain”. However, he does not call for Gusenbauer’s exclusion from the party. Gusenbauer decided that he wanted to remain a party member and pay his membership fee. But Gusenbauer does not represent the SPÖ.

Regarding the Middle East conflict, Babler reiterated the SPÖ’s criticism because Austria voted once morest a UN resolution for a humanitarian ceasefire in December. Everything must be done to protect the civilian population.
