Volkswagen drivers will be able to fulfill their requests by simply speaking everyday language to the voice assistant application. For example, the driver simply says, “I feel cold,” and the car will close the windows if they are open and turn on the heating.

The modern car can understand the meaning of daily speech, as when you say, “I feel hungry and I want chicken cooked in butter,” the application will show on the car’s screen the route to the nearest Indian restaurant, according to what was confirmed by managers at Volkswagen and the Sirens company, which entered into a partnership with Volkswagen regarding this technology.

Kai Grunitz, member of the Volkswagen Board of Directors for Technical Development, said that customers can now adjust functions inside their car without touching any button. He added, “Our customers do not want to adjust their seats manually, but rather through linguistic systems.”

For those who have modern cars equipped with the Apple CarPlay or Android system, they cannot give verbal instructions in everyday language to their cars. Rather, they must always press the interactive screen, which requires distracting attention from the road, and this may cause traffic accidents.

So using artificial intelligence was the solution, Grunitz says, “I think what our customers are really looking for is ease and smoothness of using their cars,” by giving them an easy way to set up and call up services inside them with a voice assistant.

Volkswagen said that the new model of its car equipped with this technology will be produced for customers in North America and Europe starting in the early second quarter of this year, and will be made available later to the rest of the world.

Critics say that adding generative artificial intelligence to cars would have brought regarding a major development, like what happened years ago when self-driving cars were created, but today the uses of this technology are for less important purposes.

Volkswagen said it is the first commercial car manufacturer to make this technology a standard feature in its small car segment.

General Motors said in March 2023 that it is working on manufacturing a virtual personal assistant using artificial intelligence models that are superior to the GPT chat application.

Mercedes-Benz tested a program in June 2023 that enabled regarding 900,000 cars equipped with the company’s MBUX system to download GPT chat, eventually allowing users to carry out tasks such as booking movies or… Restaurants from behind the wheel.
