Wengen Downhill Training: Marco Odermatt and Stefan Rogentin Shine – 4 Races in 4 Days

2024-01-09 13:46:35

Marco Odermatt was the fastest in Wengen during the first training session for the Wengen descent. Another Swiss stood out: Stefan Rogentin set the 3rd fastest time.

On the original Lauberhorn route, almost 4.5 km long and lasting two and a half minutes, Odermatt beat the American Jared Goldberg by 5 hundredths. Grison’s Rogentin was the only other rider to concede less than a second to the downhill world champion (0″65).

After his race, Odermatt, who is still waiting for his first World Cup downhill triumph despite 11 podiums, said why he pushed a little more than usual in the 1st training: “I wanted to approach the first part of the course with the necessary seriousness. The starting turn was the most important for me during this training, because I have not always managed to negotiate it in recent years. In addition, the 2nd session training session on Wednesday will take place on a shortened track.

4 races in 4 days

Four races will take place this weekend in the Bernese Oberland resort. The start will be given on Thursday with the descent on a shortened route, with a start above the Hundschopf. The replacement race for the canceled downhill at Beaver Creek will begin at 12:30 p.m. After the super-G the next day, the classic downhill will take place on Saturday on the original course. On Sunday, the slalom will traditionally close the program.
