Toni Polster released from hospital after emergency surgery

“I am deeply grateful for the excellent care I received during my treatment at the Favoriten Clinic. The entire team did an excellent job to stabilize my health and enable me to recover quickly,” said the ÖFB record-breaker. Goalscorer in a broadcast from the Vienna Health Association.

“Challenging emergency operation”

Polster was actually supposed to take part in a press conference on December 28th because of the dispute with the ÖFB over three unrecognized international matches and goals. Due to his illness, the 59-year-old Viennese canceled the event and underwent emergency surgery in the hospital on the same day. “The emergency operation was demanding, but thanks to the teamwork and modern medical equipment in the Vienna Health Association, we were able to treat Toni Polster successfully. It is pleasing to see that he is on the road to recovery following just a short time,” said the operating surgeon Mariam Vedadinejad.

A week following the procedure, Polster was allowed to leave the hospital once more. On New Year’s Day he announced via social media that he was on the mend. The ex-striker’s 44 international goals in the ÖFB team uniform are unmatched to date. His 95 international matches have only been surpassed by Marko Arnautovic, David Alaba, Andreas Herzog and Aleksandar Dragovic. As a coach, he has been coaching Wiener Viktoria, who play in the Regionalliga East, since 2011, interrupted by a short stint at Admira.
