An accident took place this Monday morning near the Michelin-starred restaurant “The Jane” in Antwerp. The author is none other than chef Nick Bril, as revealed by our colleagues at HLN. As he was driving his car home, he hit a restaurant employee. The man was taken to hospital and is now in life-threatening condition. The victim is a 37-year-old British man currently on internship in the Antwerp establishment.
After this accident, the star chef tested positive for alcohol. Since then, his driving license and his car have been revoked as part of the investigation.
The chef of the starred restaurant “The Jane”, in a state of intoxication, knocks down one of his employees: the victim is in danger of death
Colleagues and friends reacted to this tragedy with the daily newspaper De Morgen. “It’s upsetting. I know Nick and I’m sure he is devastated by this accident and is thinking a lot regarding the victim at the moment,” explains Marcelo Ballardin, from the Ghent restaurant Oak, a colleague and friend of Nick Bril.
Another colleague of the starred chef wanted to react anonymously on what happened this Monday morning. “It is very bad. It is true that ‘The Jane’ ends the week on Sunday evening. It may be that a drink was drunk at that time and that there was a New Year’s Eve at that time,” he confides. Before continuing: “But this also happens in other workplaces. This is not typical of our industry or of Nick”.
As for Nick Bril, his lawyer, Mr. Souidi said his client was in shock. “His thoughts are with the victim and his family.”
