Since Friday January 5, several Air Caraibes passengers have been stranded in Martinique due to various technical problems on two planes. The airline is starting to organize care for its impacted customers. But do you know what your rights are in the event of too much delay?

Since Friday January 5, hundreds of travelers are or have been stranded in Martinique. The reason: several planes from the Air Caraibes airline were unable to take off due to technical problems. Some were taken care of by the company – those in Business class – the others remained at the airport in precarious conditions.

Today, the company reacted by announcing the establishment of an additional flight “chartered to Evelop Airlines, operated by A330 “. This additional flight will take off from Fort de France at 5 p.m. As for the plane that suffered a breakdown on Friday, it must be repaired in the coming hours and put back into service this Tuesday, January 9. Air Caribbean management, via Eric Michel, the company’s general manager in the Antilles, says he regrets “all inconvenience caused to our customers, and that all our operational decisions have been solely motivated by our concern for their safety.”

According to the information that the editorial staff of Outre-mer la 1ʳᵉ was able to collect, all penalized travelers should be compensated by the company. The others, those who are still stuck at Lamentin airport in Martinique, should be accommodated for tonight, as stipulated government rules.

According to the standards set by the government, In the event of a delay of more than three hours on arrival, passengers have the same rights as if their flight had been canceled. First of all, regarding compensation, if your flight is more than 3,500 km away, you are entitled to 600 euros from the company. In addition, the latter has a certain number of obligations to respect in terms of assistance. It must: offer refreshments, catering, cover hotel and transfer costs between the hotel and the airport. But also offer you telephone access.

Another thing to know is that if your flight is more than five hours late, you can request a refund from the company if you cancel your trip. Compensation and reimbursement are not automatic; it is up to you, the traveler, to initiate the procedures, either by registered letter or directly online on the company’s website.
