The president of the Association of Hotels and Resorts of Angola (AHRA), Ramiro Barreira, said it is important that Angola takes advantage of this election by defining a strategy that allows regions chosen as major areas of tourist interest and development to fit into the Angolan strategy. Government for the development of the sector
ACNN Travel chose, on Monday, January 1st, the 24 best places in the world to visit in 2024, and Angola is among the 10 best, occupying eighth position. Luanda and the city of Lubango, in the province of Huíla, are among those highlighted by CNN.
Landscapes, such as Fenda da Tundavala and the statue of Cristo Rei, both in the city of Lubango, the Kalandula Falls, in the province of Malanje, Barra do Kwanza and Cabo Ledo, in Luanda, are mentioned as some of the spectacular areas to visit in Angola.
Reacting to the nomination, the president of the Association of Hotels and Resorts of Angola (AHRA), Ramiro Barreira, said that Angola has great potential as it has very interesting tourist resources, but that it is not yet an emblematic tourist destination in the world.
The association leader highlighted that “this election means that CNN Travel recognizes that Angola has excellent tourism that can help immensely, especially in the growth of the local economy in certain areas, such as the capital of Luanda, Lubango and Malanje”, he said. But, he continued, “the entire southern zone of the country has great tourist potential and its respective resources”, he added.
Ramiro Barreiro said that the important thing in all of this is to take advantage of this election to define a strategy that allows regions chosen as major areas of interest and tourist development to fit into the Government’s strategy so that the sector can be developed in these areas and also make Angola a country of interest because this constitutes an international novelty.
Gains for the economy
Regarding tourist attraction, the president of AHRA highlighted that, from a commercial point of view, this election will attract tourists, but it is necessary to pursue this advantage of Angola being among the 10 best countries to visit in the world, with the creation of necessary conditions. “Tourists don’t come just to come, they come because they need to find conditions to visit the entire country and, in this regard, we have the minimum conditions created in terms of the hotel sector.
We need them to come and start giving money to the sector to make the hotel units profitable and thus continue to create better conditions”, he highlighted. With regard to internal tourism, at the end of last year, Ramiro Barreira emphasized that people moved a lot around the country looking for hotel units throughout Angola, which means that there is still acceptable internal tourism.
But, he emphasized, more work needs to be done in this aspect despite the fact that domestic tourism depends more on the financial capacity that people have to be able to enjoy leisure. “We are working hard to organize tourism and define a much more realistic and functional policy and strategy, because the other provinces need to be more organized in this sense”, he highlighted.
