Several callers reported a fire in St. Marienkirchen an der Polsenz (Eferding) to the state fire brigade headquarters on Friday followingnoon. A car was on fire in the barn of a building. “Because the owner and the neighbors fought the fire with fire extinguishers until we arrived, the worst was prevented,” says operations manager Andreas Dopler, commander of the FF St. Marienkirchen.
Eleven fire departments responded to the scene of the fire around 2:15 p.m. The homeowners had been working on a car on a lifting platform in the barn attached to the house. According to Dopler, while they were on their lunch break, the vehicle probably caught fire for an unknown reason. The owner finally noticed the flames and alerted the fire department, and together with the neighbors he began fighting the fire.
No injuries
The emergency services took over when they arrived and quickly got the fire under control. “This is an old wooden building that might have gotten bad very quickly,” says the operations manager. A short time later, Dopler was able to give up fire and the operation was officially over at 4 p.m. “We will check the situation later with a thermal imaging camera,” says Dopler shortly following the end of the operation. Nobody got hurt.
