Director General of WHO Urges Testing and Vaccination for COVID-19 and Flu

He Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed last Friday through his account @drtedros on the social network Respiratory diseases caused by COVID-19, flu and other pathogens have increased in many countries for weeks and this is expected to continue following the recent holiday season.

He urged citizens to “get tested and seek care when necessary because COVID-19 treatments can prevent serious illness and death.” Furthermore, to continue using “masks, ventilation and distancing to reduce exposure, and make sure you and your loved ones are up to date on your COVID-19 and flu vaccines.”

He called on government representatives around the world to provide access to reliable tests, treatments and vaccines, especially to those at highest risk of severe infection. Also to “maintain surveillance, sequencing and reporting to follow the evolution of the COVID-19 virus,” in addition to provide clear messages regarding risks and measures to reduce risk in populations.

The health representative reminded citizens, follow WHO recommendations to address the global threats of the disease and thus avoid further complications.
