New York Mets Add Sean Manaea to Pitching Rotation: Latest Updates on Carlos Mendoza’s Managerial Project

Venezuelan Carlos Mendoza’s project as manager of the New York Mets continues to have new elements. The New York Post reported that the Queens team also signed starter Sean Manaea in exchange for two harvests and $28 million.

Indeed, the 31-year-old left-hander is coming off a season where he started as a member of the San Francisco Giants bullpen, due to physical problems, but ended up in the starting rotation. He went 7-6 with a 4.44 ERA in 117.2 innings.

Manaea’s is the second big-name signing in the last four days for the Mets, following last Thursday they acquired the services of center fielder Harrison Bader for one year and $10 million.

In this way, the former Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres pitcher also joins a metropolitan rotation that lost the historic Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer in mid-2023, sent to other franchises, but that has the Japanese Kodai Senga, as well as another acquired this winter, Luis Severino, and the Colombian José Quintana as hierarchy cards.

The Mets will seek in 2024 to make up for a disappointing previous season in which they finished second to last in the NL East.
