Jean-Philippe Dion: An Inside Look at Mental Health and Television Success

2024-01-06 16:00:00

Jean-Philippe Dion was less demanding of himself before filming the sixth season of The true nature. And this kindness was beneficial to him.

He doesn’t know if it’s the quarantine that makes him “less anxious” and more confident, but the fact remains that last fall was more pleasant than usual.

“I think there is something over the years that causes an insecurity to begin to disappear,” said Jean-Philippe Dion.

He mentions having “removed logs from the stove” and having adopted a more “relaxed” approach, thus offering a “better version of [lui-même]».

“For a long time, for fear of not being up to par, I prepared too much for my shows. It was demanding for me and for others. This year, I wanted to be more relaxed, more chill as my 13 year old would say.”

Instead of just inviting people who don’t know each other to Jean-Philippe’s chalet, the team starts the season with a special Salebarbes bringing together the five guys in the group. “Just because you work with people doesn’t mean you spend your time telling each other the real deal like we do on the show, so it’s nice to see their reactions.”

A first couple also arrives at The true nature. Charlotte Cardin and Alyocha Schneider are joined by Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

A very personal quest

In addition to returning to the bar The true nature and co-hosting the second season of Get me out of here! with Alexandre Barrette, two big guns at TVA, Jean-Philippe Dion offers a very personal quest regarding mental health by directing the touching documentary Gaétan Girouard: shock wave. He always admired the go-getter journalist JEbut he wanted to understand why he took his own life 25 years ago.

“When making this documentary, in which we talk regarding performance anxiety and the desire for perfection, I certainly told myself that I might not be the one to address these warnings without putting them into practice,” he stressed, adding that the project paints a portrait of the man, the father and the distinguished journalist without glorifying his irreparable gesture.

Very touching, the documentary will be broadcast at prime time. In order to avoid a ripple effect involving suicide, we demonstrate that the journalist was loved and that his death, which occurred on January 14, 1999, greatly upset his loved ones as well as his colleagues at TVA.

Be challenged to move forward better

Jean-Philippe Dion, who also produces The voicelikes his close colleagues to constantly challenge him, a way for him to move forward.

“When you succeed a little, it’s as if people are afraid to tell you what they think, but it’s essential for me to be challenged,” he emphasized, saying “having taken the best decisions” by becoming a shareholder of Productions Déferlantes eight years ago.

Very busy, he develops reality TV New chance for love for 40 to 60 year olds. He will also be interested in shows like The cheaterof which TVA will offload the production externally, in addition to rolling up its sleeves to possibly put back Star Academy on the air.

“TVA recently informed us of its intention to bring the show back on the air. We are back on track, but we don’t know if it’s for winter 2025 or in two years.”
