Calcium plays an important role not only in maintaining bone health, but also in the functioning of various body systems. Doctor Chad Dila rheumatologist at the Cleveland Clinic in the US, shares signs of this macronutrient deficiency.

Gradually reducing calcium intake can have negative effects on various systems in the body, causing, among other things, decreased bone mass and an increased risk of osteoporosis. Apparent calcium deficiency is usually associated with constant fatigue, which, according to the specialist, is associated with insufficient supply of nutrients to the cells.

A deficiency of this macronutrient can manifest itself in the form of pain, stiffness and muscle cramps, and can also affect the functioning of the heart, causing an irregular heartbeat. Additionally, calcium is essential for normal brain function, and a lack of it can lead to confusion, drowsiness, and dizziness. Research has also linked calcium deficiency to an increased risk of depression.

Chad Deal points out that calcium is found in a variety of foods, such as dairy products, green leafy vegetables, sardines, almonds, sesame seeds and chia seeds.
