His name is an omen. Like lightning that strikes unexpectedly during a storm, Lightning (which means “lightning” in French) creates the effect of surprise. Indeed, the United States has long suggested that the Ford F-150 Lightning would not be exported to Europe and Switzerland. The Lightning nevertheless makes an excellent ambassador of Ford’s skills in electric vehicles. And the least we can say is that this flatbed vehicle has it under the hood. The dual electric motor develops a power of 458 hp and a huge torque of 1050 Nm. Despite its empty weight of 2.9 tonnes and a payload of 600 kg, the double-cab pick-up sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.
The battery has a net capacity of 91 kWh allowing a range of 427 kilometers, which is more than enough for daily use. The charging speed is also excellent. With a charging power of 150 kW, it only takes 39 minutes to go from 15 to 80% charge. In Switzerland, the Ford F-150 Lightning is only available in the color “Antimatter Blue Metallic” as a five-seater “Super Crew Cab” with comfort equipment and four-wheel drive. Its price amounts to 127,000 francs.
