Millonarios wants everything to be perfectly fine for what will be the 2024 season, where they are favorites in the Colombian League and hope to go far in the Copa Libertadores. One of the first objectives is to improve the squad, especially by bringing in a new winger like Andrés Ibargüen, who might add a lot of value to the team’s game.
This Friday, the player’s representative Andrés Ibargüen was speaking with journalists from El Vbar Caracol, where he said that there are several clubs interested in him, among which might be the winners of the Apertura 2023 (Millonarios) and the Finalización 2023 (Junior). Ibargüen played for Independiente Medellín in what was his second consecutive year in the Colombian League, following leaving Liga MX in 2022.
So far there is nothing confirmed, nor official offers for Ibargüen, but Millonarios fans would be more than grateful if he came to the club to reinforce the defense. During 2023, Ibargüen gave five assists in the 29 games in which he was present.
The arrival of Ibargüen
If he signs with Millonarios, things might change positively for the club, but it should be noted that he is no longer the same player as he was almost ten years ago, when he debuted with Tolima. At that time he was 22 years old and today he is 30. Last season he played for DIM, but in 2022 he came to the Colombian League to play with Tolima, where he scored six goals in 26 games as a starter.
During last season, Millonarios allowed 18 goals, being the fifth club with the fewest goals conceded in the Apertura Tournament and that was enough to win the title. However, during the Finalization, they conceded 20 goals and were in eighth place among the least scored teams in the Colombian League.
Millonarios has a good defense made up of high-quality players, such as ‘Tico’ Juan Pablo Vargas, with 34 games last season, or Jorge Enrique Arias, with 45 games and 32 starts in 2023. Ibargüen, if he wants a position in that defensive line, will have to fight hard from day one.
