Academics were interested in the possible impact on bone health, since the available drugs for the treatment of low bone mineral density are not only expensive, but also not always effective, and also have side effects. The study results were published in The Journal of Nutrition.

83 women took part in the experiment. The first group had to eat 50 grams of prunes per day, the second group – 100 grams of dried plums, and the third group was a control and did not eat dried fruits at all. All participants received additional calcium and vitamin D3 as treatment. Scientists compared blood counts before the experiment and 12 months later.

It turned out that eating a serving of prunes every day for a year led to a decrease in the secretion of special protein molecules in the blood that cause inflammation. The study authors are in no hurry to make big statements and only note that the results indicate a potential anti-inflammatory effect of prunes.
