“If you choose me, I will be elected, I will serve, and we will not even discuss these issues. We will discuss your problems. You won’t have to worry regarding my driving. I will conduct myself in a way that you can be proud of. I will conduct myself in such a way that you can say to your children, “This is someone you should emulate” and we will be successful because of it. »

Ron DeSantis, Republican governor of Florida and presidential candidate, speaking to his party’s electorate during a town hall presented Thursday evening on CNN, less than two weeks before the Iowa caucuses. He was responding to a question from host Kaitlin Collins regarding Donald Trump’s claimed immunity from federal criminal prosecution. He also accused the former president of not being “pro-life” and proposed for the first time a flat tax rate of 9 percent.

PS: Nikki Haley also participated in a CNN town hall Thursday evening. She seemed less comfortable than DeSantis in defending in particular his answer on the cause of the Civil War started in 1861 by the slave states of the South. She became further entangled by stating that she had had “black friends” during his youth.
