They weren’t finished yet: they got in touch last year Panzerchrist with “Last Of A Kind” back following a far too long break. The Danes’ first regular album in a decade gave the quintet’s metallic extremes a breath of fresh air. Deep black Death Metal with a clear Vader and Belphegor side announced the return to old form. But that didn’t say everything, because they kept a few songs in reserve to finish telling the story of this record. And so 2024 begins with an appendix that ultimately stands wonderfully on its own two feet: „All Witches Shall Burn“.
However, a song from the current album was chosen as the lead track – because on the one hand it fits conceptually with this truly enchanted presentation and at the same time it is one of the highlights of the new work. “Sabbath Of The Rat” moves forward briskly and skilfully sums up the old, new vigor of the Northern Lights. Anger and dramaturgy literally shoot at each other, the brutal demeanor drives through the bones, while classic, unadulterated black metal rattles through the speakers. Frosty solos and rattling drums are reminiscent of former Norwegian greats, without completely turning away from the classic band sound – a rousing, pleasantly grueling feat.
Of the new tracks that were also created during the album sessions, “A Stone For The Graveless” is definitely at the forefront. The solemn, death-doomy demeanor with precise malice knows how to entertain, seems bilious and pleasantly brisk. Heavy walls shake, the bitter sweetness of the guitars in the second half is good. After that, “Satan Is Among Us” really wants to break speed records, at least by Panzerchrist standards, swinging its fists wildly and coming out of the caesura as leaden. The experimental to industrial departure “She’s A Witch” is more outro than song, not essential, but doesn’t hurt either.
“All Witches Shall Burn” skillfully expands Panzerchrist’s musical cosmos without relying on complete revolution. More speed on the one hand, more malice on the other, a small experiment, plus a deep black atmosphere and raging anger – the mix is as simple as it is simple; just awesome. The Danes round off their current album comeback cycle in a more than entertaining way and consolidate themselves on a powerful level.
