New recruit for the official Honda team, Tosha Schareina was quick to mark his territory. This Friday morning, the Spaniard, winner of the Desafio Ruta 40 Rally in Argentina and second in the Sonora Rally in Mexico, confirmed his great speed by being the fastest biker over the 27 kilometers of a prologue traced in a canyon north of Al-‘Ula, Saudi Arabia.
With a time of 17’35”, Schareina is ahead of Daniel Sanders (GasGas) by 12” and Ross Branch (Hero) by 19”. Adrien Van Beveren (Honda) ranks 4th, ahead of reigning world champion Luciano Benavides (Husqvarna), whose brother Kevin, winner of the 2023 Dakar, finishes 9th.
This entry into the Saudi desert will serve to establish the starting positions for the first big stage of the Dakar scheduled for Saturday. During a ceremony this Friday evening at the Al-‘Ula bivouac, Schareina will have the king’s choice for her starting position and will obviously avoid opening the track.
