PC brands continue to invest in the trend of portable consoles competing with the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck. This time it’s MSI which is doing it, probably for CES 2024.

We really hope that Microsoft has planned an adaptation of Windows 12 to portable consoles, because the trend seems to be taking hold among PC manufacturers. After the Asus ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go, the manufacturer MSI seems regarding to launch its all-in-one portable PC console. The image is already circulating on social networks and the manufacturer has started teasing in this direction for CES 2024. We can read “uA new breed of MSI dragon is being born. Take the hand and stay tuned » on one of the brand’s latest Instagram posts.

An Intel portable console?

In the game of indiscretions on social networks, Intel does not seem to be left behind. THE compte Intel Gaming seems intrigued by MSI’s planned announcement. An interaction which is undoubtedly not random but well integrated into the communication plan of the two brands. Enough to deduce that the MSI portable console will integrate an Intel solution, i.e. only a processor, but more likely also an Intel Arc graphics chip. Portable consoles require a high degree of miniaturization, which involves the use of a unified SoC chip for the CPU and GPU. This is the reason why Asus ROG and Valve turned to AMD, whose specialty is this.

Absent from the x86 CPU market, Nvidia is left behind for the moment with its GeForce RTX graphics chips. However, we must not forget that the brand is actually associated with the champion of the sector: Nintendo. We imagine that the Nintendo Switch 2 expected for 2024 should once once more integrate an Nvidia Tegra chip.

Design similar to the ROG Ally?

We only have one image to get our teeth into of this first MSI portable console. It’s difficult at this stage not to think of the Asus ROG Ally as the design seems similar in several aspects. Whether it’s the RGB LEDs around the analog sticks, the black frame surrounding the screen in the center of the machine, or the small speaker grill next to the right palm.

The general shape of the object also seems to follow the same lines up to the menu buttons with geometric shapes marked on each side of the screen. We can note that the controller here seems integrated into the machine, like on the ROG Ally and unlike the Nintendo Switch or the Lenovo Legion Go. The latter two offer to detach the controllers from the console.

We will have to wait for the official announcement and the numerous accompanying images to get a better idea of the design of the machine. In particular, we cannot see the back of the console.
