LONDON, March 20, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727) announced that it has completed the 100MW/100MWh REP1&2 energy storage station in the United Kingdom (“REP1&2”) – the company’s first large-scale energy storage project in the United Kingdom Abroad – commercial operations commenced. Another milestone is the grid connection of the Fiskerton II-A solar project (“Fiskerton II-A”), the last of the eight solar projects in Great Britain.

The 100MW/100MWh REP1&2 energy storage station project in Kent has entered commercial operation. The final project under construction, Fiskerton II-A, in a series of eight solar projects in Lincolnshire, has come online

The two projects will be built in the east and south-east of England, where electricity demand is high during the coldest times of the year according to statistics from the Statista Research Department is one of the highest in the country. Once fully operational, the new facilities will help increase the region’s grid capacity during periods of high demand.

The REP1&2 project in Kent features high-performance lithium iron phosphate batteries manufactured at Gotion New Energy’s Nantong manufacturing site. The project was developed by Pacific Green and acquired earlier this year by a subsidiary of Generali, Italy’s largest and third largest insurance company in the world. With Shell Energy Europe Limited as operator, the project aims to improve the efficiency, reliability and sustainability of the UK’s electricity system.

Shanghai Electric supplied a complete set of energy storage solutions, including 38 battery and 20 PCS containers. The completion of the project marks a significant step for Shanghai Electric in expanding its presence in the global energy storage market.

The successful grid connection of the Fiskerton II-A project in Lincolnshire is the culmination of a series of eight solar projects in the UK led by Shanghai Electric. This strengthens the company’s position as an innovation leader in the solar sector, driving the development of groundbreaking and sustainable solutions to meet the increasing global demand for renewable energy sources.

“Shanghai Electric’s eight solar projects in Lincolnshire will generate 128,117 MWh of renewable electricity annually. These are also Shanghai Electric’s first projects abroad, where the company is responsible for the investment, financing, construction, grid connection and operation of the solar system. This underlines Shanghai Electric’s extensive capabilities in providing cutting-edge solar solutions, which require ground-breaking, high-efficiency and long-lasting solar products,” said Stuart Mellor, Project Manager of Fiskerton II-A.

Timeline of the eight solar projects:
