ALGIERS- Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa met, Thursday, by videoconference, with the directors of agricultural services to whom he gave instructions concerning the plowing-sowing campaign, vaccination once morest foot-and-mouth disease and preparations for the month of Ramadhan, according to a ministry press release.
The meeting was attended by veterinary inspectors from the 58 wilayas, the general director of the Interprofessional Cereals Office (OIC) as well as the directors of cereal and pulse cooperatives (CCLS).
“The meeting focused on the 2023-2024 plowing-sowing campaign, the cultivation of legumes, the general agricultural census, the vaccination campaign once morest foot-and-mouth disease as well as preparations in anticipation of the holy month,” said the communicated.
In this regard, Mr. Cherfa gave firm instructions to “ensure the implementation of the various measures taken for the success of the plowing-sowing campaign, in particular the provision of free seeds and fertilizers to farmers and the suspension of the repayment of agricultural credits +Rfig+ for the benefit of farmers affected, the previous season, by drought, in application of the guidelines of the President of the Republic”, underlined the ministry.
In the same context, the minister ordered the implementation of the pulse sector development program to which the State has granted several incentives in order to boost national production.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized “the importance of the general census of agriculture for the sector and the national economy, hence the need to mobilize all stakeholders for its success” .
While congratulating the efforts made within the framework of the vaccination campaign once morest foot-and-mouth disease which is experiencing a notable rate of progress, Mr. Cherfa insisted on “the finalization of this operation within the allotted time frame”, concluded the ministry.
