This Friday a delegation from the FMI to review and renegotiate the agreement with the multilateral organization that is currently down for not meeting any of the established objectives.
In this context, the team Channel E communicated with Sebastian Marilfinance expert, who spoke regarding the country’s financial outlook during 2024.
Agreement with the IMF
“It should be a shuffling and re-shuffling because the previous agreements were signed in economic contexts different from the current one”said Maril, who then completed: “This agreement should focus on the new situation in the country.”
“Tomorrow will be the beginning of a negotiation that will last a long time,” explained the analyst. “Nothing can be agreed upon if there is no clear panorama in Congress and in Justice”he added.
Along the same lines, the interviewee said that the IMF always focuses on the deficit, debt commitments and legal problems abroad. “Argentina has a legal exposure of 25 billion dollars”he added.
The expert then said that it would be crazy to sign a new agreement without having fresh funds from the IMF. “I would not close any agreement with the organization if they do not disburse at least 5 or 10 billion dollars”he detailed.
Finally, Maril said that there are pending payments with other multilateral organizations in this tax regime. “Many payments are going to be restructuredespecially the payment to the IMF,” he concluded.
