HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The City of Hartford celebrated its newest mayor on Thursday.
A number of events were scheduled for Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and his supporters.
The first event of the day was an interfaith prayer service.
It wrapped up by late Thursday morning and brought together faith leaders from across the city.
The service was held at the Center Church on Gold Street, very close to City Hall. Different faith leaders packed the church to share reflections and prayers.
Faith leaders who spoke at the interfaith prayer service talked regarding the importance of creating a sense of community in Hartford.
“The community we create will be a powerful force for justice and peace in our city, our nation and in our world,” said Fr. Timothy Shreenan, St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church.
Arulampalam is the capital city’s 68th mayor.
He was sworn in on Jan. 1, 2024.
The next event on the schedule was an inaugural reception, which happened at the Old State House.
Thursday night, the Believe in Hartford Ball was scheduled to take place at the Connecticut Convention Center.
