A new act of violence that alarms the community was recorded on the morning of this Thursday, January 4, in the city of Cúcuta, in Norte de Santander.
This is Jean Andrés Yepez Patiño, a man who had started the year with the hope of a healthier life by doing physical exercise.
When on Thursday morning, while jogging on a city avenue, he was approached by two men on a motorcycle, who shot him repeatedly and ended his life and dreams.
With this homicide, there are already three murders so far in 2024 in Norte de Santander.

2024 began violently in the department of Norte de Santander. In just four days of the year, three people have been murdered in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta. All the victims are men and were attacked with a firearm.
The most recent case occurred around 7:30 am this Thursday, when a man identified as Jean Yepez was approached while jogging on Río Avenue by individuals on a motorcycle, who allegedly tried to steal a gold chain and his cell phone.

According to preliminary versions, Yepez would have resisted the robbery, so the robbers shot him twice.
Lieutenant Colonel Andrés Porras, Operational and Citizen Security commander of the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, reported that the victim was transferred to a medical care center, where he lost his life due to the severity of the injuries caused.
This fact has caused consternation among the community and users on social networks, from where Jean had shared motivational videos recording his change towards a healthier life.

There are three homicides so far in 2024
With the murder of Jean, there are now three fatalities in violent acts involving firearms.
The first victim of the year was registered in the municipality of Puerto Santander, it is a 23-year-old young man identified as Bran David Becerra.
The young man, who served as a regular soldier of the National Army, was found with five bullet wounds, three in the torso, one in the left arm and another in the head.
According to preliminary versions, Becerra had disappeared since December 1, 2023 under a permit from the Army.

As the days passed, the Army contacted relatives to report that Becerra did not show up once more; At that moment, search efforts began.
It was not until this Wednesday that the discovery of the lifeless body of the 23-year-old young man was announced through social networks. The body was found in the 23 de Abril neighborhood of this border municipality.
However, the Army command, to which Bran David Becerra belonged, issued a statement in which it assured that the victim no longer belonged to the institution since he retired last March 2023, the entity reported that the young man had deserted.
The second homicide was recorded on the night of this Wednesday, January 3 in the Center of Cúcuta, the victim was identified as Juan Pablo Bautista, 35 years old.
The man was murdered inside his vehicle when he was traveling along 12th Street and 11th Avenue, in the El Llano neighborhood. According to statements by Lieutenant Colonel Andrés Porras, operational and citizen security commander of the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, it was a hitman attack perpetrated by individuals who were traveling on motorcycles.
Likewise, he assured that the pertinent investigations are being carried out to clarify the facts.
