The Charleroi criminal court handed down a nine-year prison sentence on Wednesday morning once morest a 42-year-old woman prosecuted for attempted drug poisoning of her 4-year-old son. The prosecution had requested a five-year prison sentence once morest him, without opposing a suspended sentence. The forty-year-old claimed for her part that she no longer remembered the facts.
At the beginning of last June, the judicial authorities were informed of the worrying disappearance of a chronically depressed mother and her 4-year-old son. The police found the defendant’s car in the Feluy area (Seneffe, Hainaut) on June 6 and, in the back of the vehicle, the forty-year-old and her son, unconscious.
Toxicological analyzes then revealed the presence of Valium, Paracetamol and an antipsychotic in the child’s body. A letter written by the defendant was also discovered in her vehicle. The mother wrote there in particular: “my vault is ready for me and my son.” When questioned, the defendant claimed to have “a black hole” and no longer remembered the facts.
The public prosecutor had requested a five-year prison sentence, leaving the assessment of a suspended sentence and a reclassification of the facts as attempted assassination to the court. “It’s something thoughtful, which she suggested to several people,” the prosecution insisted.
The defense had pleaded for a probationary suspension, emphasizing the call for help made by the defendant on several occasions.
